Traveling for the holidays can be a stressful time for many people. This is what we do to avoid holiday stress with our family.
Traveling with family is never easy, but there are some things you can do to make the experience more enjoyable.
We have a four-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son. We’ve traveled with them both extensively (they’ve been on 4 international trips so far), but this Christmas is our first time traveling with them during the holidays. We know how stressful travel can be, and we want to avoid as much stress as possible!
Here are some of our tips for avoiding holiday stress when traveling with family:
Plan ahead – The best way to avoid holiday stress is by planning ahead. If you know that you’re going to be traveling during the holidays, start planning now! You can book flights and hotels months in advance if need be, which will save you money and help ensure that everything goes smoothly when it comes time to travel. Also, buy tickets early so that you don’t have to deal with bad weather or other unexpected delays!
Pack light – I know this sounds like common sense, but it really does make a difference! If you pack light enough so that you don’t have to check any bags then your luggage won’t weigh down your flight or make checking into.

How else can you overcome the stress of going on a family trip?
First, we make sure that everyone understands that we’re all in this together. We try to make it clear that the only way for us to have fun is if everyone pitches in and does their part. We also make sure that everyone understands that we’re all going to be on the same side—the side of making it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Next, we establish some ground rules. For example, we might say (and mean) that you can’t interrupt someone else’s conversation unless it’s something urgent or important. Or maybe we’ll tell each other not to call each other by name but instead use nicknames like “honey” or “darling.” Whatever works best for your family!
Finally, we remind ourselves of why we’re doing this: because it’s our family, and they love us no matter what happens!
It is no surprise that traveling with a family adds a greater level of complexity and stress to any trip. However, planning our trips with the family in mind can go a long way towards making sure that everyone is enjoying themselves and having memories for a lifetime. Use these tips when traveling with your family so that you can all have an amazing time together, free from holiday stress!
