Her ground-breaking contributions to the telecommunications industry during the 1970s also included other game-changing technologies like solar cells and fiber optic cables, the portable fax machine, and the touch tone telephones, cementing her status as an accomplished inventor. She was also the first African American woman to receive a doctorate at MIT.
